13 Oct Industry and Manufacturing
Australia’s industrial and manufacturing sectors are adapting to energy security, decarbonisation, supply chain pressures and evolving environmental standards. EME Advisory provides the planning and environmental insight that helps operators modernise facilities, manage regulatory risk and maintain production certainty. We support upgrades, expansions and process transitions across heavy industry, energy-intensive manufacturing and logistics – helping clients achieve compliance, efficiency and sustainable growth.
Project Highlights
Confidential timber manufacturer
EME Advisory provided advice to a timber manufacturer on the regulatory framework for transitioning energy supply from grid and gas to energy from waste derived fuels. This included engagement with the EPA to confirm interpretation of current energy-from-waste regulatory settings and potential future changes.
Woodchem – Resin Manufacturing Facility (Oberon)
EME Advisory has assisted Woodchem with a number of development applications at its Oberon site as part of a programme of upgrades to maintain operational efficiency and increase production capacity. Given the nature of the site as a chemical manufacturing facility, the assessments have required regular engagement with the DPHI hazards team and SafeWork NSW to address regulator requirements.
BlueScope Steel – Port Kembla Steelworks
Provided strategic advice on alternative planning frameworks and approval pathway reforms to support BlueScope’s decarbonisation and long-term site transformation. EME’s work identified planning to simplify and streamline the approval process.
Manildra Shoalhaven Energy Recovery Project (Manildra Group)
Prepared strategic submissions and environmental advice to the NSW EPA on transitioning from coal to waste-derived fuels at the Shoalhaven Starches facility. EME’s work demonstrated alignment with NSW waste and energy policy, advancing Manildra’s energy securoty objectives while maintaining affordable energy for continuous production.
Snack Brands Australia – Smithfield Food Manufacturing Facility
Delivered the Development Application and environmental assessment for a new production line and heat recovery system, improving energy performance and air quality while maintaining compliance with NSW industrial standards.
Orica Kooragang Island – Ammonium Nitrate Facility
Provided planning advice on State Significant Development modifications and development contributions for one of Australia’s largest industrial energy users. EME’s advice allowed Orica to successfully challenge a development contribution imposed as a condition to the modified consent by demonstrating that the medication would not increase the demand on public services or amenities.
